The basics

What is the Desider score?

Every dish on Desider has two scores side by side. The first is Google’s overall restaurant rating. The second is the Desider score: the average rating that South Asian diaspora community members (“Desiders”) give a specific dish. When they diverge, the gap tells you something Google alone can’t: whether this dish is authentic to its cuisine.

Why does my Desider score say “insufficient reviews”?

Any dish with fewer than 2 Desider-community ratings (5 in production mode) shows insufficient reviews instead of a number. We refuse to publish a score until we have enough signal to trust it. Rate the dish yourself to help it cross the threshold.

How do I rate a dish?

Tap the Deside tab (thumbs-up icon). Search for the dish or pick one from your recent history. You’ll rate across five dimensions: taste, authenticity, portions, spice, value.

Account + privacy

How do I reset my password?

On the sign-in screen, tap Forgot password, enter your email, and we’ll send a reset link. If you signed up with Google, Facebook, or Apple, go back to the same provider. Your password is managed there.

Can I delete my account?

Yes. In the app: Settings → Delete account. Everything associated with your account is purged: ratings, saved items, preferences, ad-interaction events. See the full list at desider.food/delete-account.

What data do you collect?

Email for login, your ratings + optional photos, and anonymous usage events. We don’t sell data, don’t track you across other apps, and don’t run third-party ad SDKs. Details on the privacy page.

For restaurants

How do I claim my restaurant?

Sign up at merchant.desider.food, enter your business details, and submit a claim. Admin reviews every claim (usually within one business day). On approval, a 30-day free-trial advertising campaign starts automatically.

Can I see how my campaign is performing?

The merchant portal shows impressions, clicks, profile views, direction taps, and a peer-percentile ranking against other restaurants in your city. 30-day rollup + daily breakdown.

Technical issues

Why did the app crash?

We collect crash reports via Sentry (with PII stripped) so we can fix bugs quickly. If it keeps happening, email support@desider.food with your phone model + iOS/Android version + steps to reproduce.

The app says it can’t find nearby restaurants.

Desider MVP covers Houston only (and 50-mile radius). If you’re outside Houston, search works but nearby results won’t. Dallas, Austin, and the Bay Area are the next cities on the list.

Can I use Desider without signing up?

Yes, browsing and search work without an account. You need an account to rate dishes, save items, or leave reviews.
